The Starbucks Day of Action was a huge success, and Oxfam has you to thank! Thousands of activists, Ethiopian-Americans, and coffee lovers in more than a dozen countries — from New Zealand to Scotland to the US — visited Starbucks stores on Saturday, December 16.

In Manchester, England, a team of 9 volunteers and staff visited eight Starbucks stores, handing out more than 700 action cards to Starbucks customers entering or leaving the stores. They collected about 150 statements of support as well, which were handed to Starbucks staff across Manchester.

Here, Haftom Gebreselassie of Ethiopia signs a statement of support outside Starbucks during the action.

I love the winter treats at Starbucks. As I have mentioned several times before Starbucks is one of my guilty pleasures. This happens to be their seasonal gingerbread latte and gingerbread loaf with chunks of real ginger and cream cheese frosting.

In Sydney, Australia, local activists toured the city in placards (and a costume!), visiting Starbucks locations and talking with management, letting them know that they support the ownership of Ethiopia’s coffee names.
