Coffee, Cup and Beans

I’m exporting some files and my laptop is busy proccesing files, I can’t do much, so I took my camera, turned around and my little coffee cups with coffee beans,
they were waiting to get their shot taken. I love coffee and usually have coffee beans near my work place, love the smell, so I need to put fresh coffee beans every week.
I love macro/detail images, so that plus coffee is a perfect match.

For The Rouge Players Task "Twin Peaks" set by Kezzaroo
I never saw any of the twin peaks TV series. When I was younger and it was on television my parents deemed it unsuitable for my fragile little mind ;) Since then I never got round to watching it.
This shot is inspired by the place in the film called "The Dark Lodge" it was an supernatural realm/place inhabited by various characters. The two key features were the herring bone pattern floor, and the floor to ceiling red curtains. The main character also appears to have had a penchant for cups of coffee.
I went to see the Wolverine film tonight, I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. Without CGI the internet leaked copy must be about 4 minutes long ;) The film was a bit devoid of plot and felt like a box ticking exercise, and It certainly didn’t feel like a film that is supposed to be set in 1979…
This shot has rather heavy use of Photoshop to create the floor. I generally avoid using Photoshop for my 365 as I want to try and get better shots in camera rather than through post processing. Unfortunately this floor would have had to have been really quite large to fit the frame so in the end I faked it. I used a old wardrobe door laid under the curtain to make the blend easier and also laid a piece of wood on the floor so I could gauge the distortion necessary to fake the perspective. Most of the time here was spent getting the shadow from the curtain onto the floor to look real.
not sure why I used my tilt shift lens for this shot, most probably because it was on my camera at the time and I couldn’t be bothered going to get my 50!
Lightroom: crop, tweak levels, nudge red and orange hues to get a deep red curtain, export to Photoshop.
Photoshop: …make the floor, blend the floor into the picture, USM sharpen, save to JPG.
Strobist: 580ex @ 1/8 into shoot through umbrella to high camera left, National flash @ 1/4 into shoot through umbrella to high camera right. Triggered by povery wizards. The aim here was to provide fairly even downward illumination to mimic the style used in the TV series.
